Carbon Dioxide Gas Detection
Carbon Dioxide Gas Detectors – Portable gas detectors from a1-cbiss for the detection of Carbon Dioxide
CAS Number: 124-38-9
TWA: 5000ppm
STEL: 15000ppm
Properties
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is an odourless and colourless gas. CO2 is heavier than air and collects at low levels. As a guide, Fixed Carbon Dioxide gas sensors should be fitted at knee height.
Dangers
Despite the fact that we breathe out Carbon Dioxide and that it is present in the atmosphere (about 400 ppm), its maximum safe level is 5000 ppm (0.5% by volume). There is some degree of risk in crowded, badly ventilated places because it displaces oxygen and at high concentrations will cause asphyxiation. Early symptoms of being exposed to high levels of carbon dioxide include dizziness, headaches, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
Where is it found
CO2 along with Methane is the primary component in landfill and sewage treatment digester gas.
In the event of a release, it’s easy to succumb to exposure, especially in a confined space like a tank or a cellar.
CO2 is a product of combustion and is used to carbonate beer found in brewing and other fermentation processes. Accidents and fatalities do occur in the food and beverage industry from carbon dioxide releases. Without proper detection methods in place, everyone at a facility could be at risk. This is fairly common when one person shows symptoms of high carbon dioxide exposure and nearby workers attempt to help, only to become victims as well.
